Poster Thursday: Fascist Flair

After all this communist blather, I thought I'd compose an ode to fascist art. The Italian Fascist government under Benito Mussolini was ideal: a whole nation with a penchant for the dramatic called upon to design uniforms, weapons and parades. They had the freaking Romans to look to for inspiration. What a disappointment that gladiatorial battles didn't come back. What a greater shame that the mama's boys filling the ranks of Italy's army fled at the first sounds of battle. Rome's legions once made Germanic tribes piss in their deerskin leggings.

a classic example of Italian fascist propaganda
Hijack the symbols of other nations for effect.

The text reads "Here Are Your Liberators." Note the drama mask, something only a theatrical Italian artist would depict on an otherwise demonic poster.  This Caravaggio of chaos also imagines a burning hospital, complete with red cross and screaming children. Surely, these evil Yankees will target orphanages, cathedrals, and convents. What a genius poster. Too bad the only Italian conquests these days are naive female tourists.

I like the burning first aid building. Classic.
